D3 University - Equipping Instructional Designers to Provide NextGen Learning Solutions |
I've listened to stories over the years about how my ID colleagues "fell into" the field of Instructional Systems Design. They rarely received formal training in ID, but due to their exceptional intelligence and ability to recognize patterns and apply higher order thinking skills, they were able to put together a semblance of ID methodology to be able to say, "Yes, I'm an Instructional Designer." Many of these IDs are cautiously hiding behind their title, struggling to learn what they can from their ID leads and counterparts, but really don't know all the fundamentals, much less the more advanced techniques and methodologies that comprise the field of ID.
Meanwhile, the demand for IDs who can respond to a wide variety of learning needs is exponentially increasing. How many IDs do you know that can conduct a full Job Task Analysis, create a Design Document, develop training for any delivery including e-learning, ILT, mobile apps, OJT, and job aids? How many know how to lead a client through the implementation phase? How many can perform a summative evaluation on an existing learning solution, or even know what the four levels of evaluation are? Today - and tomorrow - the global market needs not just IDs who can quickly crank out deliverables, but true Learning Architects who know how to lead a client from learning solution concept to full implementation and measuring ROI. That's the goal of D3: to equip IDs and wanna-be IDs to be the next great generation of Learning Architects. I want to give them the knowledge, skills, and abilities to create ways to learn that we have not even envisioned yet! |
